D-Day, (Day 4) Shoes, Jackets & Purses - Simplicity Challenge

It's D-day......

Or, in other words, it's shoe day.

Don’t be angry, girl friends.

You KNEW this day was coming.

And, you’ll need to brace yourself here because,

it’s purse day and jacket day as well.

I’m really sorry to have to put such a heavy purge on you all in one day.

I hadn’t realized until yesterday how difficult this might be for some of you.

Because yesterday,

I sat in a girl friends living room,

along with another friend,

chatting about how my purge was going.

It ended up being quite an interesting conversation.

Interesting because, we talked at length about today's purge.....

specifically, jackets.

My one girlfriend is very stylish.

She loves make-up and perfume and jewelry.

She loves beautiful clothes that reflect her beautiful nature.

(She really is beautiful, inside and out, and I love her dearly!)

She also loves her shoes, purses and jackets.

She sat the chair next to me in a very lovely jacket,

While we talked about jackets.

Her words, paraphrased.....

"She has a lot of jackets.

But she loves them all.

And it is very difficult for her to part with them.

Take for example the very lovely jacket she is wearing at this very moment.

It has been in three or four of her donate piles over the last couple of years,

but for some reason, it has never actually made it out of her house."

And, it really is a beautiful jacket!

It fits her well and looks great on her!

(Like everything she owns!)

She would like to downsize her jacket quota

But, for some reason, she cannot.

(Perhaps it would fit me???)

Now, my other friend is in a completely different boat.

She is also extremely reluctant to part with a certain jacket.

She doesn’t even particularly like it.

But, it is the only winter jacket she has.

She can’t part with it because she is worried about not finding another one.

(Finding the right jacket for the right price is hard!)

I sit somewhere between the two.

I have a few different jackets,

but not one that I really love.

The thing is, I have a hard time justifying the purchase of another jacket,

even one that I would really love,

because I have jackets that work and fit,

regardless of whether or not I love them.

Because I can’t seem to bring myself to purchase another jacket,

I am loathe to get rid of some of the ones I have.

(But, I did of course, get rid of some jackets!

Four of them!

And two of my hubby's! Don't tell him!)

jackets to purge

All three of us,

in completely different dilemmas,

are so very reluctant to purge jackets.

Which is what makes me think that this could be a very difficult challenge.

Especially when we add in shoes and purses.

I especially struggled with my shoes.

These ones to be exact.

Not that I wear them mind you.

Not one pair of them fits me well.

Seriously, every single one of them hurt my feet.

But, what if I might need a pair of heels one day?

And look how fabulous they look hanging on my ladder!

I get so many complements on what a fantastic idea this was,

and if I get rid of my shoes,

no one will complement me on how fabulous and creative I am!

(Seriously though, is not a genius idea?)

In the end though,

I got rid of every single one of those pairs of shoes.

(Um, not the boots! NEVER the boots!)

Like my "one jacket" girl friend said yesterday,

“We are too old to be wearing shoes that squish our toes!”

Preach it sister!

(Except that, even though we are in our mid 40's, we are not "really" old, - just too old to be wearing shoes that pinch our toes- we are actually quite amazing! We look and act young and are super cute too, I might, add!)

Anyway, I absolutely refuse to wear pinchy toed shoes anymore!

So, every single pair of those pretty shoes hanging on my ladder, is leaving my house.

I’m going to purchase myself a pair of high quality, beautiful, black, comfortable pumps,

because ladies?

I’m so worth that!

And about my purses.....

purses to de-clutter

I hemmed and hawed over whether or not to ditch most of them.

I only use one.

Seriously.

One purse.

Every day.

For every season.

But I feel like I might be "loserish" if I only have one purse.

But, honestly though, what in heck is the point of keeping purses that I never use?

Like EVER!

They went.

All but one extra the my brother brought back for me from Thailand.

I can't part with it even though I don't use it.

(And, I don't feel guilty about it either!)

Ok, girls.

It's time to simplify.

Gather all of your jackets together in one place.

Go through them first.

You know the drill.

Only hang up the ones you keep.

Then do the same thing with your shoes and boots!

and then your purses.

creative coat hangers and a flip-flop bucket

I really encourage you to make the hard decisions today.

Remember why you are purging.

Living a simple lifestyle is more important than a collection of purses you use very little,

shoes that pinch your toes,

and jackets that you don’t really love,

or are taking up space in your home

and keeping you from living your best life.

Keep only what you need and love.

You may need to invest in a new jacket…..

Buy wisely.

You may to purchase a pair or two of shoes.....

Purchase wisely.

Or perhaps you may just need to purge a bunch and love the ones you keep!

Whatever the situation,

Your objective is to simplify.

Don’t forget to post a pic in today’s thread.

I know this will have been a hard day.

When it's all said and done,

grab yourself a cup of tea, (or a glass of wine!)

and toast yourself whilst checking out progress of your fellow challenge takers!

You’ve got this, girl!

See you tomorrow!

holy homemaking.jpg

Your most important ministry Beloved, happens within the walls of your home. Homemaking is about so much more than cooking and cleaning and doing the laundry. While it does include those things, homemaking is also about creating a home atmosphere of peace and security. It is about cultivating a place where you and your loved ones can experience grace and forgiveness, and grow in relationship with Jesus.  Holiness & Hygge is really about holy homemaking. Because what better place is there for you and your family to experience and extend, the love of Jesus?
