Summer Hygge Living Space
During the summer months, there's no place I'd rather be in the whole, wide world, than on our deck. When we built our current home 4 years ago, we opted out of having the builders construct the tiny deck that was included in the plans. We chose to wait, and build it ourselves the following year,
so that we could make the best use of the space.
And make use of the space we did!
Our summer season is far too short here in the small Alberta town where we live,
so we have to pack a lot of summer living into a very short time frame.
Because we spend as much time as possible outdoors, we chose to invest in a large,
low maintenance back deck. We have not regretted it.
Weather permitting, we really do "live" every moment that we can out here in our favorite space.
Welcome to our summer, hygge living space.
I'd be hard pressed to choose a favorite item on our deck, but if I had to, our dining table might be it. We purchased it from Canadian Tire a few years back when it was on clearance, and I absolutely love it!
We eat every meal that we can, out here.
It easily seats 6 people, and in a pinch,
8 (or even 9 people around it with the bench on the opposite side)
so it's perfect for when we have guests over for an alfresco meal.
I've created a simple, hygge tablescape from a collection of items I use throughout my home,
to add a touch of cozy atmosphere.
These beautiful outdoor sofas, also from Canadian Tire, were purchased this year.
We got them on sale for half price and we are so thrilled with their addition!
They are incredibly comfortable and let me say,
I can stretch out with my feet hanging over the edge, quite comfortably!
They are the perfect spot for an afternoon siesta in the sun!
As you can see, our cat also loves to curl up out here!
And nothing speaks hygge like a cozy kitty!
I highly recommend you get one! ;)
This other seating area on our deck sits just outside our master bedroom.
My husband and I spend quite a bit of time out here.
We especially love it in the cool of the evenings and
we'll often light the gas fireplace and just sit and unwind at the end of a long day.
It's looks and feels so cozy out here in the evenings when we have the candles lit.
It's a beautiful spot to sit and sip a cup of tea or a glass of wine.
On especially cool evenings, we also light the patio heater. It gives off a lot of warmth and we are so glad we chose to invest in it's purchase. It affords us extended lounge time on our deck and again, with our short summer season, we love to take advantage of every opportunity we can, to sit outdoors.
Taking advantage of every moment afforded us during these glorious, sunshiny days, is summer hygge living at it's best. We plan on embracing every opportunity that we can, to bask in it's beauty.
May you also, relish every summer hygge moment that you can!
“Summer afternoon—summer afternoon;
to me, those have always been
the two most beautiful words in the English language.”
